Turi Simeti

Turi Simeti (1929–2021) was an Italian artist celebrated for his minimalist, monochromatic reliefs that prominently incorporate the oval shape. Born in Alcamo, Sicily, Simeti moved to Rome in 1958, where he became involved in the avant-garde art scene and found particular inspiration in the work of Alberto Burri. By the early 1960s, he had developed his signature style, utilizing repeated ovals to create dynamic interactions of light and shadow across his canvases.

Simeti’s work is defined by its exploration of spatial relationships and the delicate play between form and light. His monochromatic surfaces, often featuring raised ovals, invite viewers to engage with the artwork’s physical presence, highlighting depth and dimensionality. Throughout his career, Simeti stayed dedicated to his minimalist approach, consistently evolving his exploration of form and space.
