Liorah Tchiprout

Liorah Tchiprout (b. 1992) is a London-based multimedia artist working in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Her figurative works are both fantastical and intimate, drawing inspiration from Yiddish literature and her Jewish heritage.

Central to Tchiprout’s practice are her hand-crafted dolls, which serve as the foundation for her compositions. Built upon wooden mannequins or wire armatures, these figures—modeled after herself, close friends, and literary characters—are animated through modeling clay, handmade clothing, and human or animal hair. As subjects of her paintings, the dolls become intermediaries between reality and fiction, their slack postures and weighty heads embodying a delicate tension between life and inanimacy. In this way, Tchiprout constructs a self-referential world that oscillates between the real and the imagined.
